Trend Alert: Hair Colour Trends for 2017
If it’s been awhile since you’ve shaken up your hair colour, this is the year to try something new and off the spectrum of natural hair colours, or on the extreme ends of the spectrum (platinum or ebony). Whether your hair is in need of a refresher, or you want to turn your hair into a colourful accessory this summer, here are some of the most popular hair colour trends for 2017:

Iridescent
If you haven’t noticed, unicorns are very popular right now, you see them on cakes, cookies, and heck, Starbucks even made a unicorn frappuccino this year. But aside from edibles, pastels and iridescent rainbow colours are being mixed with the “silver” hair colour trend. Summer is the perfect time for trying something more fun and playful, and it doesn’t get much more fun than dreamy “unicorn” hair.

Colored tips
Dip-dyeing hair blonde was *the* thing to do over past few years, but now all those faded blonde tips are being traded in for different shades. Coloured dip-dying hair are trending, and blue seems to be the most popular colour (or at least, the most googled). Reminiscent of mermaid hair, colored tips are the safest way to go if you want to experiment with color, but want a way out.
Hand Painted Blonde
If you’re looking for the best complement to beachy waves, or great “get up and go” hair, then hand-painted colour is the way to go. Balayage or hand-painted blonde is one way of achieving dimension or highlights that fade into the rest of the colour more naturally. Because of its low maintenance and highly customizable, hand-painted highlights is one of the most popular ways of going blonder this year.
Platinum
If you’re less concerned about looking natural, but would rather make a bold impression, then platinum is the way to go. Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne, and Katy Perry are just a few celebrities who have gone platinum this year.
Platinum is easiest on hair when it’s shorter, which makes it no surprise that many of the celebs going platinum have short bobs or pixie cuts (like Karlie Kloss). Don’t mess around with box dyes and home bleaching when going platinum. In order to lift your colour to the lightest shade while maintaining the integrity of your hair, you’ll want professional grade products and an experienced colourist. This way, you’ll reduce brassy or yellowish undertones and unnecessary damage to your hair.

Sleek, Shiny, and Straight
Opposite of short and platinum, another big trend this year has been long, black, middle-parted bone-straight hair – think of Cher’s classic hairstyle. You may have noticed this look paired with extra long extensions this year on the Kardashians and other celebrities, such as Jourdan Dunn.
The trick to pulling off this look is to make sure it’s squeaky clean without any product build-up (try a clarifying shampoo) before taking your hair straightener to it. A lightweight spray to give your hair an extra shiny look and look loose flyaways in place.
