4 Essential Hair Styles for the Holidays

by: Erica Vella

The holidays are here, and with it comes a plethora of parties and must-attend functions.

Finding fresh new ways to sport your flow can often propose a challenge.

You have the perfect outfit, but what on EARTH are you going to do with that hair?

Fay Linksman, award winning artistic director at P & H Salon and Spa says it’s important to put your best foot forward when dressing your hair for the holidays.

Whether it’s a get together with family, friends or even that work thing you HAVE to attend, P & H Salon and Spa has three staple hairstyles that are sure to turn heads at your next holiday function.

1. The Old Fashion Blow Dry

Do not underestimate the power of a well-executed blow dry.

“A blow dry is the foundation for style,”Linksman said. “whether you leave it styled like that or you move on to pinning it up, a good blow dry can go a long way.”

Once hair is 90 per cent dry, section hair, use a round brush and nozzle to smooth out ends.

“It’s important to roll the brush out on the ends. This will reduce friz and make the ends look shiny and smooth,” said Linksman.

This style is perfect for a causal holiday lunch with coworkers and takes minimal prep time.

TIP: use Mousse Forte (Sebastian) for fine hair, and Taming Elixir (Sebastian) for curly/frizzy hair.

4. Wonderfully Wavy

Want to heighten your hair to celebrity status? Waving those long, luscious locks can give your hair body and character.

“People often default to straight hair beacuse it is simple. By adding a soft wave, your hair looks more done up,” said Linksman.

For a soft wave, use a setting spray and a one-and-a-half inch curling wand and wrap hair around the barrel of the wand.

Take large sections, curling hair back and away from the face. Hold for approximately five to ten seconds and your hair is left with a beautiful bounce. Use a light, stronghold hair spray to keep the waves in tack.

These waves are sure to wow your family, friends and that secret crush you’ve been waiting to run into.

TIP: Sebastian’s Zero Gravity hairspray leaves hair feeling light but has all the features of a strong-hold hairspray.

3. Elegant Up ’do

Time is of the essence in this day and age. We want to look the best in quickest amount of time possible.

Up ’dos are challenging to pull together when your rushing to get everything together for that family function you forgot you planned.

We have an up’ do that is easy and quick and will elevate you from maid to muse in a matter of minutes.

“Pinning your hair up can be associated with being more formal. Sock buns are great becuase you can make them messy or smooth depending on how tight you wind the hair,” said Linksman.

Begin with your hair tied in a tight ponytail near the crown of your head. Place a chignon at the base of the ponytail and wind hair along the outside of the chignon.  Pin into place.

4. Short hair?

If you have short hair, but crave a different look for your ‘Friday night function’, fear not friends! Simply using a different styling product can change your every-day pix cut to an edgy, evening style.

“Adding texture building product like a paste or a  seasalt spray will change the look of short hair. These products can make your hair more eyecatching and look dressier,” Linksman said.

TIP: Wella Smooth Brilliance Pomade or Sebastian Microweb Fibre will give your short ‘do added texture.
